March 12, 2026
On 11 March, an open discussion on the “invisible threads” and shared values that unite Lesya Ukrayinka, Ivan Franko and Ephraim Moses Lilien was held as part of the RE:FRAME LILIEN project.
Speakers included Stepan Davymuka, a scientist, Professor, Doctor of Economics, Ukrainian politician, public figure, collector, and patron; and Marko Simkin, an international journalist, historian, art historian, public figure, and member of the Expert Council at the Education and Science Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration. Roman Yatsiv, a Doctor of Historical Sciences, Ukrainian artist, Candidate of Art History, educator, and Professor, also shared his knowledge.
Dr. Olesya Datsko, an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Art Management at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, addressed all those present with an introductory speech.
Participants in the discussion included young artists, designers, researchers, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of cultural heritage. During the event, guests explained to young artists how cultural heritage can become a tool for their creative reflection. Together, they explored new contexts to inspire young artists to come up with bold ideas and contemporary visual solutions.
Following the guests’ presentations, participants could ask questions and talk to the speakers. Visitors also had the opportunity to view authentic editions featuring Lilien’s illustrations and learn more about them.
Those unable to join the conversation offline participated online.
A video recording of the lecture will soon be available on our YouTube channel.
We sincerely thank the speakers for their insightful and inspiring discussion, as well as all the participants for their interesting questions, active engagement in dialogue, and joint search for new meanings in cultural heritage.
We are grateful to our partners at the Lviv National Academy of Arts for their support during the event!
We would like to remind you that the Regional Development Agency of Lviv Region, together with its partners, has announced the launch of the RE:FRAME LILIEN poster competition for young artists, designers, and researchers of visual culture.
