Cultural tour of Jewish literary heritage sites in the Lviv region.

PROJECT SUMMARY

By the Jewish Literature Traces was a one-day cultural bus tour of Lviv region held on 9 November 2025.

It focused on Zhovkva, the centre of Jewish book printing from the 17th to the 19th centuries, and Drohobych, the centre of Jewish secular literature and home to prominent authors of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the cities with a rich history and colourful personalities, as well as other locations intertwined in the literary map of the region.

During the tour, participants learned about the development of Jewish literary tradition from the late Middle Ages to World War II; discovered the history of the first Jewish printing houses; and visited places described in the works of Salcia Landmann, Clara Schwartz, and Bruno Schulz.

The project ran from August to November 2025.
