On 8 November 2024, Iryna Tymechko, Acting Director of the Regional Development Agency of Lviv Region, took part in a working meeting at the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, held with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian UCORD project.
Key topics of discussion included the priorities for regional development agencies in 2024: their role in supporting strategic regional projects and strengthening the human resources for local governments and state authorities.
“RDA is about the future and how each region will develop and have prospects. Agencies will take the lead in this, and the Ministry will support them.”
Maryna Bryl, the UCORD project leader, emphasised that supporting agencies is a strategic objective of the Project.
“We have already started working with RDAs from across Ukraine, and this cooperation will continue to deepen in the future. Soon, a study trip to Romania will take place so that agency representatives can learn from their colleagues’ experiences and improve their understanding of the role of agencies in regional development.”
Iryna Tymechko outlined the significant achievements of the Regional Development Agency of Lviv Region in cooperation with international partners. The Agency is a partner in two important projects within the European Union’s Interreg Europe: SKYLA and JEWELS TOUR. It is also actively involved in research and innovation within the EU’s Horizon Europe in cooperation with the Health National Contact Point of Ukraine.
The Agency is currently negotiating with the DREAM platform, which represents the state system for managing public investments.
Meanwhile, the role and participation of regional development agencies in the implementation of state regional policy remain unclear and require a separate solution. This leaves the Agency in limbo.
Cooperation with the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine and support from international partners opens up new prospects for the implementation of important projects in the Lviv region. The Regional Development Agency of Lviv Region will continue to be a reliable partner for communities and businesses and will create opportunities for sustainable development and innovation.
The Swiss-Ukrainian project Ukraine’s Cohesion & Regional Development, UCORD, is being implemented through the Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation (SDC) and NIRAS Sweden AB.
