The first professional thematic seminar entitled EU Policy and Law: Standards in Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment, organised by the Regional Development Agency of Lviv Region, was held as part of the LIFE-U-SPRINGBOARD project.
Key topics of discussion on the first day included:
— The European Union’s acquis (legal system) on the environment and climate: key issues and regulatory acts;
— The principles guiding the EU’s environmental policy;
— Mechanisms for planning and implementing EU policy on the environment and climate change;
— Integrating sustainability into European Union policies.
The second day of the seminar covered practical issues of water quality monitoring and water resource management, including the status of implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive, river basin management plans, water crisis challenges, and ways to overcome them.
As a reminder, the international LIFE-U-SPRINGBOARD project is being implemented as part of the Life Programme and aims to promote sustainable water supply, modernise water treatment systems, and enhance the institutional capacity of water utilities and local governments.
